I have a list of persons names that i have imported into excel.
The problem is that they are in the format ...
jones/willy
bloggs/joe/billy
... and each string above is in one cell.
Can i write a macro to look at each character in the string and stop when it finds the value "/" and then cut the remainder of the string and write it to another cell.
Essentially i am trying to separate the surname and forenames into their own cells and any help on this would be gratefully received.

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

Select your data. Go to Data--->Text to Columns. Choose the file type " Delmitted " from the window. Click Next. You can see Delmitters " Comma, Tab, Space....". Select "Other" and type "/" in the column. Click Next. Right side Select your destination cell in " Destination ". Click finish. You will see what happening.

Hopes this helps.
