Hi,

I have a column with time data in HH:MM:SS format. I need to find the average and sum of the entire column. But the problem is it does not give me the sum or average...

If I press F2 and then Enter in each of the cellsthen I get the sum or average. However, as there are thousands of entries, it's not possible to manually do F2 and Enter in all the data.

Is there a way to do it (F2 & Enter).

Regards,

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney

If you have pasted a formula and it says Calculate in the Status Bar you need to press F9 to update. Or you can choose Tools|Options|Calculation tab and check Automatic.

Thanks Andrew.

There is no formula in the data. And I have checked the Calculation Option... It's automatic... But still the problem persists.

:(

Oh I see, you want to see the sum or average in the Status Bar.

Your entries are text entries that look like times. Try selecting all the time cells, choosing Data|Text to Columns and clicking Finish.

I suspect your time data is actually stored as text. Format the cells as Time, then enter 1 in a blank cell, copy it, select your data and then Edit->Paste Special... and choose Multiply from the options.
