Problem w/saving as .prn format w/more than 240 char in cell

We are currently saving data input into an Excel spreadsheet as a .prn file to be input into a mainframe application. Previously, the cells never exceeded the 240 character limit for prn extension before wrapping, but now our newer vesion of Peoplesoft allows for 400+ characters before wrapping.

Is there a way to override this 240 character limit in a prn file or what are our options. We need to maintain the formats that are in the Excel workbook.
