Problem with links and #REF

We just migrated from Excel 2000/Windows2000 to Excel2003/WinXP. We have a consolidation model that opens about 50 different files from different users across the company. Before, everything went very well. Since the migration, some #REFS come up in the files where there is linked cells to the divisions folders (which we don't have access to). What is weird is that one cell would be fine and the other cell would be showing #REF while the formula are exactly the same except for the reference that are respectively referring to C40 and D40 from another file for example.

If we open the template on an manual calculation mode, no problem. When we hit F9, #REF shows up. We have been running this model for the last 4 years and never experienced any problem. Could this be due to the migration?

Any help? We don't want to chase #REF and paste data into value everytime it happens, there is too many !

HELP!
