Problems with chart not showing correct data

Greetings,
I'm very new to charting with Excel, so bear with me. :). I have a range of data (in percents) that I'm charting. Now, when I look at the graph, (the percents are on the y axis, dates on the x), the correct data will read "-9%", however, when it is placed on the chart, the dot is being placed around the "-30%". What am I doing wrong? If more details are needed, just let me know.

Thanks in advance!

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.

Yes, I think that more info is needed. Specifically what data and what type of chart are you trying to create.

I am charting returns on different stocks by quarter. I have on the Y axis, percents (10%, 20%, etc) and on the X axis, months/years. For example, stock XYZ has a return of 9%. That is what is in the excel block. When I link this data with a chart, the 9% magically becomes 30%, and a dot is placed there. I'm even getting some figures to go over 100%, which none of my returns are(don't we all wish?). Its almost like there is some sort of calculation going on in the background that I'm not seeing.

It sounds like excel is working out the %ages of your %s (ie it is saying that 9% is 30% of 30). Which chart option are you using...it might calculate the %ages automatically so you need to put the actual numbers in and leave it to excel?

Alternatively try plotting your data on a scatter graph.

Can you post a sample of your data, specifying what ranges you are plotting?

Can't seem to upload the graph though with this program. E-mail me privately, and I can send it. (virus checked, etc). We're really stumped here, and this needs to go out today. I'm using a "line graph". That's what the client wants, rather than any other type.

Thanks!
