Problems with entering formula

Have tried many variations but cannot work out where I'm going wrong. Would appreciate some help. The formula works fine until I introduce the cell.offset(0,-1) variable.

cell.Formula = "=TRIM(LEFT(" & cell.Offset(0, -1).Value & "" & ",2))"

cell.Offset(0, -1).Address
