I have cell J2 containing; "12-22-30-31-34-3936" (without the quotation marks).

Why does ISNUMBER return a FALSE for =ISNUMBER(MID(J2,19,1)), when =MID(J2,19,1) returns a "6"?

The cells are formatted as General.

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.

It's because the MID function ALWAYS returns a TEXT string even though it "looks" like a number.

Try it like this::

=ISNUMBER(--MID(J2,19,1))

The double unary -- will coerce a TEXT number into a NUMERIC number.

If the 19th character is not a number then --MID(...) will evaluate to #VALUE! and ISNUMBER will be FALSE.
