I am trying to split data and some of the data in the split cells comes up as a date, rather than what was there.

eg. Data to split is an address "2/20 George Road"

Using "Space" as the seperator, I end up with

43862 George Road

It does not matter how I format the first column, I cannot get it to show "2/20".

Any assistance in solving this mystery will be apprecited.

Thanks

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Before processing make cells' format as Text.

In your "Convert text to column wizard" on last stage you should have an option to save 2/20 as General, text.....
Just choose the option you need.

Thanks

Converting to Text prior to "Text to Column" did not work, but selecting the "text" option during last step of "Text to Column" worked just fine.

Thanks again
