Processing Bar linked with a drop down menu

Hi,

I have a heavy excel file having some dashboards linked to a drop down (data validation) menu. when I select an entry from the menu, system sort of hangs for about 12 seconds. is it possible to have a "processing...please wait" bar (gif etc.) that could be shown during these twelve seconds. Ideally should go away after 12 seconds!
