Hi all,

I have an excel workbook (Excel 2003) on the network where I work, and I was wondering: by going to Tools --> Protection --> Protect Workbook does this fully protect the workbook, so that no other user other than me (with a specific work username) can edit it, or is there another way to protect the data?

Also, how would I allow specific users to edit it once this protection is applied?

Cheers,

RayJay

You would maybe be better off putting a password on the file itself. When you select File...Save As the will be a Tools button in the Save As dialogue. Select this and then General Options and you will be able to apply a password to open and/or modify the file.

If you stick with just using Protection you can use the "Allow Users to Edit Ranges" option to set individual permisions on a worksheet.

But if I put the password onto the file itself, doesn't that mean people need to know the password to even open it. I want people to view it, just not edit it (except a specific few people).
