I want to protect formulas in individual cells or columns. I go to Tools-Protection-Protect sheet and the entire sheet is protected so I cannot add or change data. How can I protect selected cells or cols so I can add date to cells or cols having formulas? thank you

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
The quickest way is to select all the cells (rows/cols/etc) that you *dont* want protected.

Then select Format->Cells from the menu. Under the "Protection" tab, unselect "Locked".

After that, protect the sheet and/or book and you'll be good to go.

Tim this is not the first time you helped me. It worked just as you said. I guess there's more than one way to skin a cat. Thanks, Matt

Tim, just started working with worksheet and successfully protected individual cells as you suggested. I Unprotected lines 1 and 2. Protected lines 3-4-5-6, then Unprotected lines 7 on down. But it seems that with this protection I cannot Sort or Delete selected lines below line 6. Is this the way it should be or am I doing something wrong. Thanks Matt

Ah, yes, that's going to be a problem.

You cannot change the cell if it's protected so sort won't work.

Sorry, that's out of my realm. Hopefully someone else can chime in and offer advice.
