Protecting a formula in a cell that also contains a drop-down list

I have a number of cells that have drop-down lists in an estimating document. I have also added a formula to some of these cells to choose a certain option if an item is selected in a different cell.
The issue I have is once I have protected the sheet, the cell remains unlocked so the drop-down list can be accessed and the formula can therefore be deleted id the user hits delete instead of selecting a different option from the drop-down.
Can I allow access to the drop-down lists but protect the formula?
