Protecting a Worksheet in Excel?

i cannot find how to protect / lock certain cell or series of cell in excel worksheet and not allowing user to go to shift focus to those specific cells which are protected/locked.
I want that user focus skip those locked / protected cell.


(when i try to use the protect button from the ribbon, it locks the entire sheet and does not allow me to type anything in any of the cells)

First unlock the cells you want the user to be able to change (Format Cells|Protection tab). Then protect the worksheet, unchecking 'Select locked cells' in the process.
