Protecting a worksheet

I am trying to protect a worksheet from interferance, and have suceeded, however the area where people can enter information will not allow for any comments to be added, even though they allow text and letters.
Is there a way in which I can protect areas my worksheet from change and yet still allow comments to be activated in the non-restricted area's??

Hello,

In Excel2000 when you protect the sheet, uncheck the OBJECT check box.

However, this allows comments anywhere.

Is this any use?

Tried your suggestion, however it allowed access to restricted areas of the worksheet, which of course is not acceptable. I am using Excel 97.
