protecting cells

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
The sheet is unprotected by default, but all the cells are selected to be locked when you protect the sheet.

View - Toolbars - Protection will display the Protection toolbar. Drag and drop it into your menu.

If you want just some cells protected select the whole sheet, in the top left corner, and click on the far left button in the Protection toolbar (lock cell). This will unlock all cells to be unprotected when you finally protect the sheet.

Then hold down Ctrl and click in each one of the cells you want protected and finally click again in the "Lock cell" button to select these cells to be locked.

Finally click on the third button in the Protection toolbar, Protect Sheet, and choose how you allow the user to enter and manipulate the locked worksheet.

Hi;

Cells are protected once the worksheet is protected.

1/ The cells you want to be unlocked, select them and go to the menu :
Format/Cells and unlock them (By default cells are locked)
2/ Menu Tools/Protect/Protect the worksheet (password optional)

The cells with a locked format are impossible to modify, the others are as usual.

Thanks.

About 5 minutes after I wrote this I remembered how to do it.
Use it or lose it I guess.

Thanks again.

Hi Ragarm,

Excel cells are, by default, locked.

What you may need to do is unlock every cell in the sheet,
and then re-lock and hide (formulas) the cells that you
do not want modified (right-click > Format cells > Protection tab).

Then you need to protect the entire sheet:

Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet
