Protecting Worksheet with Tables

I have a work sheet with a table used for data entry. It has some formulas which I want to protect from accidental modification. If I unlock all the cells and select hidden where I want to protect the formula, and then protect the worksheet, the table does not detect entry on the next row and automatically expand. Is this a "feature" of excel or is there something I am missing?
