Question about difference Between + and =

hi
why somepeople use
+sum(a1:a10)
and other use
=sum(a1:a10)
is there any secert in it

I believe that + is an alternative to = for compatibility with other spreadsheet programs.

does this not go back to older versions and making excel compatible with other stuff? lotus?

i asked this Question
becuse we use minus minus before some arguments in formula
=sumproduct(--(a1:a10)*--(b1:a10))

In Excel, the unary plus operator has no effect on the operand stack.

Otherwise you would be correct, we would be able to use:

=sumproduct(+(a1:a10=X),+(b1:b10=Y))

instead of:
Code:
=sumproduct(--(a1:a10=X),--(b1:b10=Y))

That formula should be more like

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A10=1),--(A1:B10=2))

The -- is the double unary operator and is used to coerce arrays of True/False into arrays of 1/0 that SUMPRODUCT can process.
