I use the following code to get all the files name in C:\Test and it works.
However, I have one question about this code which is everytime it gets "." first and then ".." , and finally the file names. My question is that is there any way to avoid "." and ".." in the beginning of the loop but the file name?

MyFileName=Dir("C:\Test\")
Do while MyFileName>0
Msgbox MyFileName
MyFileName=Dir()
loop

Thank you

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Code:
MyFileName = Dir("C:\Test")
Do while Len(MyFileName) > 0
  if MyFileName <> "." and MyFileName <> ".." Then
    Msgbox MyFileName
  End If
  MyFileName = Dir()
loop

Hi Jon

Thank you for your reply. This is good. However, what I need is just the first file in that folder but need not to go through the whole loop. What I am trying to do is to get the first file name and exit the loop.

Code:
MyFileName = Dir("C:\Test")
Do while Len(MyFileName) > 0
  if MyFileName <> "." and MyFileName <> ".." Then
    Msgbox MyFileName
    Exit Do
  End If
  MyFileName = Dir()
Loop
