Question re VBA Custom Functions

In my years of VBA, never tried custom functions...
In dabbling today, I made one that worked when I put in a module in the code area but it produced a name error when I put the same code in the personal macro workbook

Is there a way to put a Function in the personal workbook so that it works on any sheet? or are functions only workbook specific?

just prefix the workbook name when using the function, such as in a cell =personal.xls!YourFunction(input/s)
