Question: Trimming Leading Zeros?

I need to trim the leading zero of various entries within a column.
The truncate and trim functions don't fit the need...
Any suggestions?

=SUBSTITUTE(A1,0,,1)

or

=if(left(a1,1)="0",mid(a1,2,100),a1)
