how do i tell excel to always open a document with a particular sheet activated? is this just a setting or do i need a line of code?

One way -

Sheets("Sheet2").Activate

<SPAN style="color:#00007F">End</SPAN> <SPAN style="color:#00007F">Sub</SPAN>

Goes in the ThisWorkbook module; must answer in the affirmative to the macros prompt when opening the workbook.

"At start up, open all files in" insert your file location
