How do I use a compounding total as a formula from a single cell to its next cell without using the Auto/SUM entry to total a cell? For example, if cell C3 has entry 1000 and I then bring to cell C3 an entry of 1500, cell formula D3 should have and retain a total entry of 2500 and so on?

The addition of + is retained in a formula for D3. The 'Input' formula for C3 (C3 1000 and C3 1500) to the adding formula for D3 should receive the total entry formula from C3 to 2500 and so on. Does the question seem real? What is the formula??

The questions are for a budget.

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
Welcome to the Board!

These seems to be a very odd request. Usually, this is not the way you do math in Excel. I have seen some budget sheets, but not ones like you are describing.

Excel cells can have a hard-coded value, or a sum, but never both at the same time. And Excel formulas cannot retain the values that were previously in them.
The only way I can think of how to do this would be to use VBA. Are you open to a VBA solution?
