Quick Version question .....

I have been asked to save some workbooks from excel2000 to a format that '97 can read.
There are no macros etc just basic formatting.

When I 'save as' a win97-2000 & 5.0 / 95 workbook the file jumps from 500kb to 27,000kb - there are only 5 sheets within the book- what is the additional space used?

I guess the bottom line is .. can excel97 read a 2000 file or not?

I'm guessing blank cells. Try opening the file, highlight all the blank columns to the right and delete them (not clear contents using the delete button, but right click and select delete). Then do the same to all the blank rows at the bottom. Do that to each sheet in the converted workbook and see if it reduces the file size any.
