hey, im trying to raise a number by the number of days in a month. i thought i could: 45*DAY(A1) but that does not seem to be working. any other tips?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Try

45*DAY(EOMONTH(A1,0))

Which requires the Analysis Toolpak from Tools > Add-Ins.

hey guys, the above formulas are not cutting it. let me give you some background and maybe that will help the problem get solved. i have two columns of data that are thousands of lines long. in one column there is a date and in the column next to it there is a number. i need to multiply that number by days in a month of that exact date.

So if A1 is today's date, 8th July and B1 contains 100 you want to multiply 31 (number of days in July) by 100 to get 3100?

VoG's formula should work for you....or here's another method avoiding EOMONTH

=(42-DAY(A1-DAY(A1)+42))*B1

the formulas work. thanks guys. huge help. now, the root of problem is monthly rate of return... (1+A1)^1/B1*DAY(EOMONTH(A1,0))
