Random Percentage Markup

I am trying to write a formula to add a random percentage of markup.
I have a value in one cell of a sheet that I want to add a randomly chosen percentage to from .25% to 1.75% and place the result in another linked cell of the same workbook on a different sheet.

Like

='SOURCESHEET'!K12 plus a randomly chosen percentage from .25% to 1.75% added to the original number = contents of cell on second sheet.

Can this be done ? (Random percentages ?)

Welcome to the Board!

If you type the following formula into a cell, it will generate a % between 0.25% and 1.75% using the RAND function:

=RAND()*1.5%+0.25%

This should let you do what you want.

But, if you did this, each time your workbook is recalculated, your values will change. Is this what you want.

or did you mean 25% and 175%:
=A1*(ASELECT()*1.5+1.25)

Hi dirhl,

While it is possible to have excel add a random value to a number using a formula, you have the problem that it will recalculate and change everytime your spreadsheet recalculates.

='SOURCESHEET'!K12*(1+(0.015*RAND()+0.0025))

Will add your 0.25% - 1.75%, but the calue will change everytime your sheet changes.

If you are wanting the value to be created and then not change you are probably going to have to have some VB code to save the value.

when you have finished typing the formula, you can press F9 in the formula bar to change the formula to a static value (ie. it wont change anymore, but it won't be a reference anymore also)
