Hope someone can help. As an example, In A2:A4 I have names ie
John, Dave and Sam, and in E2:E4 I have the corresponding rankings. Is it possible, that if Dave is ranked 1 his NAME (Dave) is placed in cell H2 and if john is ranked 1 next time, his name (John) is placed in cell H2 in place of Dave, and so on?

Is this what you want? Formula in H2 (copied down):
=INDEX(A$1:A$4,MATCH(ROWS(H$2:H2),E$1:E$4,0))

What I am hoping to achieve is to only have the no1 ranking placed in H2 each time. So as Sam is ranked no1, only Sam is placed in column H, cell H2.

In that case just delete the formulas I suggested from H3 and H4 and leave the one in H2. Actually you could simplify the H2 formula to:
=INDEX(A$1:A$4,MATCH(1,E$1:E$4,0))

How did you determine the ranks in E2:E4 - using a formula? If so, care to post that formula?
