Hi,
I am trying to rank team games based on the date the game was played. (game 42 of schedule..etc) My headers are;
Date Home Away
Jan 25 Toronto Detroit
Jan 26 Chicago New York
Jan 27 LA Toronto
Jan 28 Detroit Chicago

This formula (=COUNTIFS(B:B,B2,A:A,"<"&A2)+1) works when it only has to look for team names in one column, but when I put "B:C:" as the range instead of B:B, I get an error message.

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.

i was thinking

=RANK($D$5:$D$8,D5,1)

just not getting the results i was expecting

maybe some helper cells that give a numeric value to work against i.e. Toronto = 4, Chicago = 5
