Hi there.
How can I make a workbook impossible to save without saving it as something else?
Is this even possible?

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Ofcourse, it is possible.

While saving the workbook --> Click on File --> Save As --> Tools --> General options --> Enter a password in the option "Password to modify" --> Check the option "Read only recommended" and click on OK.

Edit: Once it is done, the user will not be able to save the workbook unless he has a password to modify it in its current location. However, the user will be able to:

1) Modify the workbook and save the file to a different location with the same name or a different name.
2) Modify the workbook and save the file to the same location with a different name.

Hi

The only really secure way would be via Windows Permissions and make the file Read Only to specified users. Alternatives such as making the file read only thru Windows Explorer or using VBA code can easily be circumvented.

EDIT: But Storm's suggestion is probably a good compromise. Just be aware that files can still be deleted thru Windows Explorer though.
