Hi,

I have two tables each record line in each table is identical in table 1 and table 2 just with different data.

I would like to create a query to have a count for each records. So I could then create query matching my count# on each table to manipulate my data.

Current Query Data
<TABLE border=1 cellSpacing=0 bgColor=#ffffff><CAPTION>PARTTRAN</CAPTION><THEAD><TR><TH bgColor=#c0c0c0 borderColor=#000000>part_number</TH><TH bgColor=#c0c0c0 borderColor=#000000>ship_to_code</TH><TH bgColor=#c0c0c0 borderColor=#000000>employee_number</TH><TH bgColor=#c0c0c0 borderColor=#000000>Pcs</TH><TH bgColor=#c0c0c0 borderColor=#000000>transaction_date</TH></TR></THEAD><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>544P24143</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>QJ</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>039796</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5 align=right>1</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>20100804</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>544P24143</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>QJ</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>030953</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5 align=right>1</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>20100804</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>544P24185</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>QJ</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>050137</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5 align=right>1</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>20100804</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>544P24143</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>QJ</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>058236</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5 align=right>1</TD><TD borderColor=#d0d7e5>20100804</TD></TR></TBODY><TFOOT></TFOOT></TABLE>

You want a unique record identifier that ties the two tables together?
Looks like there should be an order number associated, and possibly another field that would be a record counter within the order? If so, those would be the 'keys'.

This doesn't really make much sense, are you sure it's a count you want?

What do you actually want to count in each table?

Can you post some sample data from the table(s)?

What I'm trying to do is link record 1 in table 1 to record 1 in table 2.
I have no key in each table to link them up. This is why I thought about creating a record count in a query for each table. Then I could link my two queries together and combine my data from each table.

The only thing I could see to do would be flood a field with an Absolute position.
Doesn't seem like adding an Autonum would produce consistent results.

Have to really check that they are linking up the way you expect though!

Here's code if you want to see:
Add Field named 'AbsPos'.
Code:
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
Set db = CurrentDb

'must be dynaset
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("YourTableHere", dbOpenDynaset)
With rs
    .MoveFirst
    Do While Not rs.EOF
    .Edit
        ![AbsPos] = rs.AbsolutePosition
    .Update
    .MoveNext
    Loop
End With
Set rs = Nothing
Set db = Nothing

I think you just want to do a union query

select * from table_1
union
select * from table_2

I really don't think using a count is a good idea for linking tables.

Are you certain there is no other way to uniquely identify the records?

Like james I was also thinking about a union query, perhaps with one addition - a new field indicating which table the record belongs to.

Once you've got that working it might be worth converting it to a table and investigating how things are setup.

eg why do you have 2 tables in the first place - are they structured the same, etc?

Here is a sample!

The only data I need to extract in PARTTRAN is Employee Number. I simply need to bring this data into SKIDSUM. Each records line in each table are a match and I have over 2,000 records in each tables. But I have no KEY to match the two table together (Maybe it not a coun i need to do).

Table: PARTTRAN

There has to be something else; a third table that ties these two, otherwise anything you do here is guesswork.

Got to agree with tweedle.

Is this all the data/tables you have?

At any point has everything been in one table and then split into 2 tables for some reason.
