Is there a simple way to put a record count box on the userform?? I'd like to auto count the number of records.

Could you you provide some more detail of what you have and what you are trying to do?

My userform is basically an address book. I want the user to know how many people are listed in the database.

Then as a starting point try..
=COUNTA(A:A)
