Refer to contents of formula rather than value

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a conditional formula to refer to the contents of the formula itself, rather than the value it returns?

Alternatively, is it possible to check whether the link in a formula is external or internal?

I want to use an if formula to generate text in a cell based on whether another cell contains a link to another sheet in this spreadsheet, or an external link.

I've tried this formula:

=IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("[",B1362)),"Tax year","Calendar year")

but it just looks at the values of the cell.

I'd prefer not to use VBA for this if possible.
