I am creating a summary sheet to track progress, the files that I want to update from are saved with titles like this

S:\Maintenance\Gary Howard\IEA COW\Current PM Work\ELEC PM WO 27-04-11

Only problem is the date in the file title is changed when the file is updates, the old file is then cut and removed from the current file and stored else where. My question is can you make a link in a cell that looks for part of a title in a certain folder ie could the link in the cell look like

=S:\Maintenance\Gary Howard\IEA COW\Current PM Work\ELEC PM WO*

If not is there anyother way of doing this?

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Well with a bit of though about how Excel works it is clearly impossible to have a direct link to a workbook with an unknown name.

However, if your summary book is open while you change the name then the link will automatically be updated. If someone else changes the name (without the summary book being open on his PC) then this does not work.

Thank you for the reply I though I was clutching at straws with that one.

I have now edited the macro on the spread sheet to save the new update as the same thing each time and save the old sheet as aback up somewhere else and all works well.

A good way round it if anyone ever has the same issues.
