Referencing certain cells

I am trying to reference a cells value based on the values of other cells.

For example:

A B C D
1 X Y 5

2 Y T 9

3 Z X 4

If cell A1, A2, A3, etc.. equals a cell in the B column, then report the corresponding C value in the corresponding D cell.

So cell D1=4 and cell D2=5

Any help would be much appreciated.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
can you clarify what you are wanting because what you are explaining you want to get does not match your example.

You want values to show up in column d based on what?

Sorry, my formatting was off.

A B C D
X Y 5

Y T 9

Z X 4

I hope this makes a little more sense.
