I need to reference data from another excel file in order to carry out calculations in yet another excel file. For example lets call these files aaa.xls and bbb.xls. Now aaa.xls is a file that is created everyday by expeorting data from another application. I keep its name as "aaa" everyday in order to maintain consistency.

Now bbb.xls needs to reference certain data fields from aaa.xls and perform calculations. How can this be achieved ?

Using a mouse in Excel is the work equivalent of wearing a lanyard when you first get to college
With both files open, in bbb.xls you could use for example

='[aaa.xls]Sheet1'!B4

to get the value of B4 on Sheet1.
