I have CF applied against an entire worksheet and want to keep it that way with the exception of a single cell. Is there a way to remove this particular cell from the data range?

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
From the UI, if you're using Excel 2007+, Conditional Formatting > Clear Rules > from Selected Cells

Conditional Formatting on the Home toolbar gives the option Clear Rules / Clear Rules from Selected Cells. Does that work for you?
