A current file of mine lists 2 valid external references in the "Edit Links" popup box:

However when I go to search for "[" or for a portion of the external files name, no results are returned.

These files are also not linked to any named ranges.

How do I remove the external sources from the "Edit Links" menu so excel will stop prompting me to update links.

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Hi,
there are 5 (or depending on interpretation 6) frequently used places in an excel workbook were links can be used:
  1. The usual suspect is the "normal" worksheet formula; excel offers a function to break links.
  2. Second place is as you already mentioned a link in a named range;
  3. The data source for a Pivot table can also contain a links;
  4. As will the data used in charts; closely look at the formatting commands for Axis or Titles, etc.
  5. There could also be a link in entered formula's within:
    1. Data validation
    2. Conditional Formatting
Unfortunately those aren't easily found. You need to check the respective functions to manually eliminate these links.

Usefull tool to check for all of mentioned (and more) possible links in an excel file is Bill Manville's free excel add-in FindLink

Thank you for laying out all the possible scenarios. I didn't even think of conditional formatting. It was weird that the addin didn't find that specific link, but going through it manually I had and idea of where to find them.

Thanks for the help!
