Removing Special Line Feed Characters

A workbook file that was sent to me has embedded carriage returns, or some other type of line feed character, all through the data. The special character looks like a tiny square or rectangle. This is causing me grief. I would like to replace all of these special characters with a single space. Does anyone know how to deal with this? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the utility and installed it. Any advice on how to use it? The utility is installed as a default add-in to Excel. When I re-started Excel and opened my workbook I don't see any differences. I really don't know what I am doing. Thanks for your patience.

If you went through the setup process normally, you will see "ASAP Utlities" as a menu item to the right of the "Help" menu item. Click it --> Text --> Remove ending carriage returns (Alt + Enter). This is the function I was referring to. It will handle multiple cells at once.

Finally got it up and running. Worked like a charm once I followed the directions. Even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in a while. Thanks.

Just a quick additon to this question:

This is what I needed answered, BUT I can't download anything onto my work computer. So what is the majic code in the add-in ASAP-Utilities?

I would like to get rid of all those extra carriage returns.

Thanks,
Nancy

As a formula ...

=CLEAN(A1)

.. or, to replace with spaces ..

=SUBSTITUTE(A1,CHAR(10)," ")
