"Replace All" entire sheet is default, I only want my selection?

My find and replace command does the entire sheet even though I have only highlighted a range?

I can repeatedly hit "Enter" to go to each cell in my highlight, then it will only replace the range, however, some ranges are quite large.

Is there a setting to change the behavior of the Replace All command? Am I not using it correctly?

Thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.

So when you select a range, goto Find and Replace..., and click Replace All it's Finding/Replacing on the whole worksheet?

Exactly, I have Office 2010.

It reports finding "30" instances in my range, then replaces "90" in the entire sheet?

Thank you for your reply

In the Find/Replace dialog make sure the Options>> are showing and that you have 'Sheet' not 'Workbook' in the 'Within:' box

hmm, If I choose "Find" first, then click "Replace" tab, it will only Replace all in my range.

Seems skipping the "Find" dialogue window and going straight to the "Replace" dialogue affects it's operation.

I'll chalk this up to inexperience.

Thanks for your help.

You better check what Peter suggested, going to Find first doesn't seem to make a difference.:)
