Replace @ fuction for photo inexcel

Im trying to data merge for indesign using excel. One of the fields is for photos. They say you have to precede photos with @ as in @photos. Excel wont let me do this saying its an invlaid fuction. Can someone please tell me what replaces @ in excel to do this?
