required current day date once data available in perticular cell

I have data in below format in excel file. I required todays date in "Date" column once I put details in "Database" field.
For this I can put formula as "=TODAY()" but I want once this date come in "Date" folder It should not change.

E.g. on 1st Jan 2017 I put detail on "Database" column then in "Date" column date should come as 1-Dec-2017. And this date should not change further.

If you have any other formula please suggest.

• Click on cell wherein you want to add current date.
• Right click on the selected cell and select “FORMAT CELLS” option.
• Select “Category” as custom.
• Click on “OK” button once you are done with the formatting.
• Now click on the formatted cell and type “NOW” to display the now function.
• After typing << =NOW() >> in the cell, simply hit “Enter” button or just click outside the cell.

It checks cell and whenever it is not empty it runs the circular formula IF(A1="",NOW(),A1) which fetches NOW() value only if the cell B3 doesn’t already have a value, thus serving timestamps.
=IF(A1<>"",IF(A1="",NOW(),A1),"") in cell A1.
