Resource use when using conditional formating

Which of the 2 options below would be the most resource intensive for Excel:

Option 1: A table with X number of rows and columns each row alternating a fill color (color 1 and color 2).
Option 2: Same table as above but using a conditional formatting rule with this formula =MOD(ROW(),2)=0

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
would be the most resource intensive for Excel
I have not specifically tested but I would think Option 2 since Conditional Formats are volatile
Also, conditional formatting would most likely need to be applied to a range bigger than your data to allow for data that might be added later while the banded formatting in a formal table will automatically expand/contract with the data in the table.
