I have a spreadsheet I need customers to amend.

I need them to be able to:
  • Insert rows
  • Not amend any cells contents in Column A
  • Be able to edit the cell contents of Columns B-E

I've tried playing around with protecting the sheet, and marking certain ranges as Locked, but I can't get it to lock Column A, but allow B-E to be editable

Any help please?

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.

If you highlight all cells in columns B to E, right click, and un-tick locked on the protection tab, that will allow you to edit these when the sheet is protected. Then when protecting the sheet, tick insert rows and delete rows to allow them to add rows. The issue you will have is they still won't be able to add anything into column A of newly inserted rows, although they will be able to in B:E of the new row
