Retreiving secong column data, regardless of which cell is selected. with VBA

Hi,
Can anyone please help me with the following request?
I want to retrieve cell value of the corresponding second column of an array, regardless of which cell is selected. (Same row as selected cell, but second column).
for instance, if cell X10 is selected, I need the value of "B10" to be put on A variable. if B12 then B12, if C8 then B8 and so far.
