Hello, a friend of mine at work just told me that she had opened an Excel file which was her master template. She then made changes to it and instead of clicking on File > Save As...she just clicked on the little diskette icon, thus overwriting the original master template.

Is there a way for her to retrieve the original template?

Thanks so much.

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Hi,

if it was a "real template" saved as xlT (not xlS) and simply opened, then the problem wouldn't occur
when you open an xlt-file the original is opened as a copy

example
BookTemplate.xlt will be opened as
BookTemplate1

kind regards,
Erik

Thanks

Thanks...but unfortunately neither of the 2 scenarious was the case...I'm guessing then that there's no way to retrieve it.

I'm going to advise her in the future to make the files 'read only' and/or save as an .xlt as one of you suggest.

Thanks again both of you.
