Return result from match not in index (i think)

Hello

Been trying to get this to work, but I've not had any success finding out how to do this.
What I want to do is, given the data in col. a, I want to supply a number(range) of strings which can be found in column a, whenever a string is found, which exists in given range, I want to write the string from the Key(col. c) in col b instead of the value from the string that matches a value.

See below for example of what I got working but not exactly what I was looking for

Col. A- Data
Orangegreen
Blackwhite
Blueyellow

Col. B - Result


Col. C - Keys
Orange
White
Yellow

I used

=INDEX(A1:A3,MATCH("*"&C1&"*",A1:A3,0))

This does produce a result, but not entirely what I am after.

This requires only one string to search for, and will in cell B1 result in a value of 'Orangegreen' as I can only supply one valeu to the function. What I want to do is supply the function with a range of values, and have those values outputtet in colb instead af the value of cells where the result is found.

I tried modifying the function to include a range, but that does not produce a valid result.

I am sure this can be done, I just dont know what to search for or where to look.

Oh i see what you did there. thanks a lot

About only matching the first result, that okay - however I failed to consider one thing in the original question.

It is entirely possible for col.a to look like this:

One Orange Green
Two Black White
etc.

for this case, the function needs to look at a substring I think where there can be some arbitrary text in the beginning of the string and what I am looking for comes further in.

A good example would be "DK Super Spar Note"

In this case, I want to return "Super Spar", as "Super Spar" would be what I had i my col. d (keys)

How would this go about working, as I am can't quite figure out how to input a * into the transpose function it does not appear to provide a result.

Ah, so it does. I forgot to change one of the columns of my original data so it was looking at a wrong column. Excellent, I will now begin dissect this formula, so i can figure out why it works and so I will learn from this.

Use Formulas > Evaluate Formula to see what the formula is doing.

Basically:
Transpose C1:C3
Generate an array, using SEARCH function, of TRUEs and FALSEs
Match (exact) TRUE in this array
Use the INDEX function to get the proper word
