I have a cell that has xxxxxx=xxxxxxxxxxxx=xx= I want the first four char after the first = sign to be put in a differnt cell, how can I do that?

Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand

Try this, where C1 is the cell containing the entry to search:

=MID(C1,SEARCH("=", C1)+1,4)
