Please may I ask some help from all you great knowledgeable Excel Experts, to help solve a problem that a poor Excel novice user who is having and banging his head against a wall.
I have a use a sheet that calculates break downs and records the start and end times, number of people affected, how long it was down for.
I need to be able to plot the downtime over a time line, calculating the Start time between 2 times is not a problem. The problem is displaying the remainder of the downtime.
Here is an example of what I am trying to explain.
A1 = Start time 12/06/2011 10:01
B1 = End time 12/06/2011 13:16 (sometimes the downtime maybe more than one day)
C1 = Users Affected 500
D1 = Total Time 00:03:15
The time line runs from 08:00 to 00:00 anything from 00:01 to 08:00 is calculated as 08:00
E1 = 00:01 to 08:00
F1 = 08:01 to 09:00
G1 = 09:01 to 10:00
H1 = 10:01 to 11:00
I1 = 11:01 to 12:00
J1 = 12:01 to 13:00
K1 = 13:01 to 14:00
L1 = 14:01 to 15:00
M1 = 15:01 to 16:00
And so on to 00:00
Now what I want to display is break down people affected across the timeline
E1 = 00:01 to 08:00
F1 = 08:01 to 09:00
G1 = 09:01 to 10:00
H1 = 10:01 to 11:00 = 500
I1 = 11:01 to 12:00 = 500
J1 = 12:01 to 13:00 = 500
K1 = 13:01 to 14:00 = 500
L1 = 14:01 to 15:00
M1 = 15:01 to 16:00
We have more than one breakdown at a time, so that I need add all the columns up for that day and plot them on a graph
It sounded easy until I tried it As I say I can get a single value in 1 cell but cannot find anyway using my limited knowledge to expand this.
I have done Google searches and checked forums but cannot find any info. If this has been asked before I must apologise as did not find it, may be someone would be kind enough to send a link to it
