Reveal number of characters in prior column

Looking for equation with equals sign for the correct answer.
The correct answers are in green.

Looking for an equation that shows the number of characters in the prior column.
I tried =CHAR and selected the cell from the previous column and that did nothing.

Excel Facts

Who is Mr Spreadsheet?
Author John Walkenbach was Mr Spreadsheet until his retirement in June 2019.
Perhaps Len() will give you the lenght of items in the cell But not just characters will include any spaces or numbers
