I am trying to creat a database/ spreadsheet that will track a customer list and services provided for each client. Once the data/ clients is all entered, I need to be able to have multiple functions that will sum up what each clients owes. I can not really preform this on excel. Is access the right program for this? Also is there any tips or tricks that will help me in this?

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.

It's hard to tell without more information, including an idea of what data you are using, whether Access is the best tool for this job.

You can easily summarize data in Access but in Excel you could probably do complex calculations easier.

The data I will have is:
customer name
service provided
billable hours
rate /per hour

each entry may occer on different days and times however at the end of the month i need a function that will search through find, and total each customer name's total bill. then be able to check off if they have been billed and if they have paid.

Have you looked at using the 'Time and Billing' wizard database that ships with Access? If you open Access, create a new database based on the wizard template - I think the process varies for each version of Access but it might be worth looking at. Even if it doesn't track the amounts outstanding, the wizard has done most of the hard work and then it would be a matter of building in receipts and balances owing.
