Hi, first time user,

Can anyone help witH an excel formula that calculates the weighted average shares outstanding on a sequential daily basis? The issue I have is that the 'weighting' applied to the number of outstanding shares changes as each additional day is added to the time-series. For example, as of day1, shares are weighted 1.0, as of day 2, shares are weightEd 0.5 and 0.5 for Monday and Tuesday, and so on and so on.

Appreciate any genius you can offer!

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Assuming your outstanding shares are in column A, would the following formula in column B accomplish what you're trying to do? If so, you could fill this formula down column B and you'll have the average through each day's data point.

=AVERAGE(A$1:A1)
